The Coffeewoman

The Coffeewoman was created to support connections, encourage mentorship, and inspire meaningful conversations between female coffee professionals. It consists of regional events, and online content, devoted to supporting, encouraging, & inspiring coffee professionals.

Over time, I have created assets such as the logo, posters, advertisements, and totes for this movement. The logo shows the strength and balance it takes to be a barista. And the additional assets show a network of women building each other up as they move and grow in the coffee world.

Poster Design

Posters were created to promote different events for artists and organizations as part of freelance work.

In addition, some poster designs were created as part of the curriculum at Seattle Central Creative Academy.  Content and methods each week were different to both challenge our creativity and to stretch us as designers by pushing us out our comfort zone.  Some posters depicted quotes or shows at the theater, while others were for music, movies, and local advertisements.

Editorial Illustrations

Illustrations were created to support articles in Barista Magazine.

The Basic Barista Fitness layout appears in the February/March issue, and features a scene to show how fitness both inside and outside the cafe can contribute to overall strength in mind and body.

The Mental Health + Self Care for Baristas layout appears in the April/March issue, and features a broader scene using some of the same characters from the previous article. It shows different ways that some show self care whether through exercise, reading, or interaction with those they care about.

ACLU/Social Justice

I worked at the ACLU from 2018-2021. The scope of work varies based off of campaign or project needs. Projects include creating informational cards for specific campaigns, know your rights wallet card materials, spreads for newsletters and annual reports, and graphics for social media (sometimes in conjunction with coalition partners).

Infographics & Data

In a world of visual stimuli, infographics attempt to communicate what text alone cannot. Infographics turn data into digestible pieces of informational art.  They have the power to synthesize knowledge and insight, to clarify, persuade, and educate the viewer.

Data was used in charts for financial information and and to accompany reports while working at the ACLU and freelancing. Some samples are versions that were scrapped or reconfigured in their final form.

For 9 Bars Magazine, infographics were created to explain processes about coffee in a clear and concise way.

COVID Relief Fund | City of Seattle

I collaborated with the City of Seattle OIRA office to create unique graphic illustrations and design layouts for social, web, and print to promote information about the Seattle Relief Fund and its deadlines for application. The request was that the design be Seattle specific, where the graphic is used across all platforms. In the end 90+ assets were created in 8 different languages in support of the campaign.

The Seattle Relief Fund for Immigrants was funding for direct cash assistance to Seattle’s most vulnerable low-income immigrant residents and their households. The campaign was launched at the end of October 2021 has been expanded to include non-immigrants. This program prioritized applicants who were ineligible for federal CARES Act Economic Impact Payments (also known as a “corona virus stimulus check”) and state unemployment insurance based on their immigration status.

OurPlan Illustrations

I collaborated on a series of static illustrations for the folks at Urban Spatial in Philadelphia. The illustrations are in support of informational videos for the launch of “OurPlan,” a free, open-source, web-based technology that uses videos and surveys to teach and engage communities around their neighborhood’s land use issues. OurPlan combines community engagement and technology to help neighborhoods plan for equity and preservation — two outcomes that are hard to square, particularly in gentrifying neighborhoods. It attempts to grapple with urban planning’s most wicked problem: How can we grow a place without disrupting the fabric that makes that place special?

Montage Coffee & Wine

I collaborated with the folks at Montage Coffee and Wine, a vibrant cafe and wine bar located in the heart of Los Ranchos de Albuquerque on branding and collateral for the cafe.

Montage Coffee and Wine is your home away from home. They offer specialty coffee in the mornings, wine when you need it, and a friendly conversation anytime. They collaborate with local chefs and artists to celebrate diversity and encourage up-and-coming businesses.

Color Study | Sketch

I spend 30 minutes creating digital paintings, to practice painting in photoshop, and to train my eye see and represent shadows, texture, and color. These sketches/color study pieces are based on photos or details from photos found on the internet.

Logo | Identity

A brand identity represents an organization’s reputation through the conveyance of attributes, values, purpose, strengths, and passions. The following logos were composed to best represent the client's business/organization.

• Cherry Street Public House in collaboration with illustrator Misha Zadeh

• Golden Bricks Events

• Refuge Outdoor Festival

• Hotel Crocodile, Madame Lou’s, The Society concept work & collaboration with Radjaw

#LOVETHEHILL

#LOVETHEHILL is an interactive installation installed in a storefront on Broadway between the streets of Pike and Pine. The purpose of the installation is to examine the evolution of Capitol Hill over the last 30 years and to document the impact of increased development and gentrification on the quality of life in the neighborhood.

The installation has extended into a short documentary film with various people discussing their experiences over the years amidst all the change. We would like to promote a public discussion that balances the positive attachment people have for the hill with their concerns about changes.

The project includes statistical analysis as well as anecdotal elements. It engages the attention and involvement of the community with the graphic transformation of the building and through the assembling of data which will be collected from a wide variety of sources, including prominent business owners, local creatives, and ordinary citizens, as well as using #lovethehill in social media.
